【シリーズ】ジャパニーズモダン 江戸から現代へ – 2022
開催にあたって
「ジャパニーズ モダン・江戸から現代へー2022」は、ギャラリー白川が17年間開催してきた「現代アートうちわ展」から発展した企画です。「うちわ」という道具を「うちわ文化」にまで高めた江戸時代の日本人の感性に注目したことが始まりです。江戸時代に入ると、浮世絵や歌舞伎、茶の湯や文学、宗達や光悦などの琳派の登場によって、大衆芸術が花開きます。日本の美とアイデンティティを現代につなぐことで、西洋の模倣ではない、オリジナリティに富んだ芸術的表現を切り開くことができるのではないかと考えています。 今回、このテーマのもとに、6人の作家が様々な素材を使ってリレー形式で作品を発表いたします。どうぞ、お楽しみください。

Foreword
“Japanese Modern Edo to Contemporary – 2022” is a project developed from the “Contemporary Art Uchiwa Exhibition” held by gallery Shirakawa for the past 17 years. It began with a focus on the sensibility of the Japanese people of the Edo period, who developed the tool known as “Uchiwa” into the “Uchiwa culture”. In the Edo period, popular art flourished with the appearance of ukiyoe, kabuki, tea ceremony, literature, and the Rimpa school of artists such as Sotatsu and Koetsu. By connecting the beauty and identity of Japan to the present day, we believe that it is possible to open up an artistic expression rich in originality that is not an imitation of the West. Under this theme, six artists will present their works in relay format using various materials. We hope you will enjoy them.
